A change of scenery can do a heart good. « Thread Started on Jan 5, 2008, 8:01pm »
((I felt like role-playing, so i did lol nobody HAS to reply to this, but if you like it would be appreciated ))
White stag looked ahead as his pistons carried him through the trees, heading him towards the coast. He hadn't ventured this far around the lands, but the scent that reached his nostrils smelled of salt water. The beach. He hadn't seen a beach in a very long time. His pace quickened as he began to hear the waves crashing against the shore, but as he hit the treeline he halted. Just outside the trees lay the beach, just as he'd suspected. His stern face relaxed as he steped out onto the sandy surface, and into the sunlight. He moved his head first one way, then the other as he followed the shoreline down the coast with his eyes, watching as it ended quite abruptly at a rocky ledge. His curiosity perked, and he made his way across the sand, moving steadily untill his hooves hit rock. He hesitated, before stepping far, considering it would probably be slippery. But his pride got the best of him and he steped out onto the rocky ledge, water already splashing onto him as it crashed against the rock. He arched his boa and looked down at the water as it moved onto and off of the rock. He would stay here for now, it was safest there. He took the moment to recount his current happenings. He had recently aquired a piece of land. It was quite lovely in his opionion. Now all he needed to do was aquire some mares. He doubted he would ever find his, "love" as so many other stags were always searching for. He didn't need it. Love was a weakness that he didn't want to have to deal with. He would need to breed of course, to keep his heard growing, but he doubted it would ever be for "love". He looked around his surroundings, he'd gotten momentarily lost in thought and that was dangerous.

The mares off colored barrel struggled to heav in a breath of air as she slowed from a gallop to an edgy walk. Her darker toned nares were flared in hopes of letting more life giving oxygen in. Kaylee was at the edge of a forest, she could smell the sea breeze and the sod was gradually turning sandy as the trees thinned out. Above her own shuddering breathes she struggled to hear the crashing ways, but certainly they were there. At last emerging from the woods Kaylee found herself square in the middle of a long beach with sand at one end and she rock formations toward the other. Quietly holding her breathe she took it all in fearing the worst but secretly hoping for the best. Satisfied that there were at least no beach panthers or anything else that might eat her Kaylee walked out approaching the water curiously. With a lone piston she stabbed at the foamy waves but immediately a chill rushed down her spine, her head shot up. Ears perked and eyes wild she turned her dial to the rocks. It wasn't the water that spooked her it was the change of wind. She had been upwind before and smelt nothing but the salt from the sea but the new wind bought the sent of a brute. It was her instinct that told her to run but her tired legs were stubborn and choose not to budge from their spot in the sand.

White crown turned as the mare entered out of the woods. She seemed tired, had he been a dark he would have taken advantage of her, and he knew that many darks...and some neutrals, would. But, he was not that sort of horse. Still, he was beginning to get bored, watching the waves, and could possibly be gratefull of someone to talk to. He slowly, and carefully moved off of the rock, and started towards the mare, but when she realized he was there she spooked, so he stopped a good 10 ft away from her, lowering his head, Greetings. He kept his relatively low, showing he meant no harm, I am Shadowfax of Fog Valley. He rose his head slightly to a more comfortable position. Who might you be?

Tension began to drain from the mares body, the stallion was friendly enough and was showing respect, she wasn't used to that from stangers. Pleasured, Lord Shadofax. She returned as she lowered her own dial in a nod of respect, her optics carefully avoiding his. It's said the ones orbs are the windows to there souls and she wanted to keep hers hidden just as much as she wanted to believe her first assumption of the moonwashed stag. She wasn't too keen on finding out anything that would turn her against him just yet. With the same tone as she used before she continued, I'm Kaylee, of no land. She couldn't help but use his wording. It never stopped amusing her the way some thought they would be judged by the places they live or the places they've been. Distracting herself she took a step back from the water, her fore-pistons were drenched about halfway from the sea mist and on-coming tide. Her dial went back to face him, it was just a bit lower then his. But even as she faced him she forced herself to look away from his eyes.

Stag smiled. Hello Kaylee He watched her actions, so much fear, That is a very nice name. His tone was softer than it would have been with any other horse, but this particular one needed trust. Tell me then, do you not wish to have a safe place to stay? Where you can be protected from others who may wish harm upon you? He knew he was probably crossing the line, but he figured it wouldn't hurt TOO much to ask. Maybe he could get her to trust someone again. Even if it turned out not to be him.

Kaylee's tail flicked in anxious annoyance. It was the way she was, since she first fell in foul hands in the forest. What was the word the others used especially for her again? Right, scatterbrained. Thats what they had called her. Of course it had a lick of truth, she didn't know how to act most of the times so she came across as messed up, but it was just that, an act. But here she had been playing them fools until he found her again, but who wants to hear about that? All that mattered was that she was back at square one. And scatterbrained. Shaking her dial to get the thoughts out of her head she listened to the stag. His tone changed, that was easy to notice. But if she could act, surely he could too. Thats an awfully bold question to ask someone you've know, what? a little more then a minute? No matter. Yes to the first and yes to the second. But tell my Lord Shadowfax, have you met any soul who hasn't hurt you? Her own tone wasn't harsh as some of her words were, rather it was soft, and easy. She knew now was the time she dreaded the time were she had to face reality, they had exchanged names and thus knew each other. Slowly her optics turned to his.

He listened to her words, taking them in. Have you ever known someone who didn't hurt you? He thought for a moment, I haven't known many at all...who hurt me or otherwise, but i deffinitely know ONE who hasn't hurt me... He paused, allowing his words to sink in. He watched as her eyes finally made their way to his crown, You. He watched her softly, eyes showing compassion. He wanted to help her. You have yet to hurt me, and, untill you do, I have no reason not to trust you. He'd been hurt plenty of times...life isn't about avoiding the hurts, it is about being able to tolerate it.

Silence. She wasn't sure how to respond. The sea breeze blew softly pulling at the equines fringes gently. Apart from blinking she hadn't broken her gaze from his. He looked sincere and acted it, so her only doubts could rest in the long term. He had broken her down that easily. Sighing she replied It's harder to wait for someone to hurt you, you always know it's coming but never when. If your lands are safe as you say I suppose we all need to take a chance every now and then. No longer paralyzed with fear she took a few steps towards the brute and outstreched her maw, and softly blow at his nares, in the customary equine greeting. It sorta sealed the deal to her. she wasn't gonna be a true loner much longer.

He sighed. You do not have to come if you so choose. I was merely asking a question. he looked at her, intensifying his gaze only the tinniest bit, making certain that she heard what he would say next, Kaylee, if you go around expecting others to let you down, then you don't enjoy any of your time together, and eventually they let you down and you split ways, and possibly never talk to each other again. He paused again, But. If you go around expecting everything thing to be just peachy, then you will enjoy your time more. And, when that let down does come, maybe, just maybe you will be able to look past the let down and remember all the good times. He sighed, and softened his gaze again, My point is, if you expect everyone to let you down, you won't have any happy memories...with ANYONE. He rose his head a bit, So, you may come, or not. The choice is still yours.

She listened intently not responding through expression or vocalization until he was completely done with his lecture. She took a few steps back, she had transformed from hardly being able to unroot her flints to an equine that couldn't stop fidgiting. This conversation is making you uncomfortable her body told her though her mind tried to block it all out. I don't need anyone to tell me how o live my life. We are all who we are because of what others have shaped us to be, we are never what we want to be. And the only way to change ourselves is to change who we spend our time with. Kaylee couldn't quiet remember who told her that but it seemed true enough to be restated. Dropping her crania lower, her nares kissing the ground she muttered Sometimes it's just hard to put the past behind. With that said she re-raised her dial, it was time for a change she would go with him, he was already turning her world around.

He nodded abit with her statement, We are all who we are because of what others have shaped us to be, we are never what we want to be. And the only way to change ourselves is to change who we spend our time with. He smiled, This is all true. he paused, listening to the rest of her speech, Sometimes it's just hard to put the past behind. She sighed, lowering his dial to the level she had, Nothing will ever get better if you don't let other's help you. Was all he said about that. He rose his head again, he knew he was making her uncomfortable, who wouldn't be in a subject as this...even he himself was beginning to feel a little uncomfortable...time for a change of subject, it was better for both of them. So, would I be so honored to have a lovely mare such as your self accompany to my homeland? he hoped she would accept the change, it wasn't that he didn't want to talk to her, if she prefered to talk of that, then very well, but it was obvious it was hurting her.

She listened quietly to is offer, this time considering it as it was a home, but more importantly to her a change. As it was her life pattern wasn't working out so she figured she had nothing to lose no matter her decision, she could only gain or at the very least be no worse off. She raised her dial to she she did mean what she had, I am more then gratefully for your offer, your homeland I'm sure is just as I need. But I'm sure no matter how wonderful it is it cannot begin to compare with the kindness you have shown me. Her eyes soft and bulk at ease she continued simply, Thank you, The change of conversation relaxed her, she hated the life she had lived, it ashamed her despite the ups and downs. She always thought she could have done more, could have done better. Hopefully, this decision would be one she didn't regret. Our destinies never change, only the paths we take to reach them.

White ears perked forwards as the stag smiled, Marvelous. Should we leave at once? Or would you prefer to ramble around a bit and see what we come across? He turned to face the woods, which were several yards away, wondering what she would choose. He was quite happy doing either...he turned his crown to face her, the decision was hers to make should she choose to make it. He was glad she'd chosen to come with him, his first mare. And a good one at that. This one could prove to give him something to think upon. Helping her would keep him from worrying about himself with his problems.

Kaylee watched as Shadowfax smiled, his grin was catching and even she couldn't resist smiling back. At his question however she was pretty stumped, she didn't know the surrounding lands at all but was also unusually eager to see her new home. She thought for only a second on the subject before replying, I know no difference between your lands and those that surround it, so wherever you see it fit for us to go that is where will go. To be fair she didn't want to make the "wrong" decision but in this situation she doubted there was right or wrong. It was fitting, she thought, to make these early on choices as she knew little of the new life she had embarked on.

He looked at her briefly for a moment, and and turned his head to face the woods. Well then, perhaps we shall make our way to my homeland...I do believe you will like it...Well, I hope you will. He smiled and turned her head to face her before starting off. His white bodic making it's way to the treeline at a relatively quick walk. He stoped at the treeline, waiting for her to come, before entering. Making sure he stayed in front of her so she wouldn't get lost.
